Another six churches were launched through ARC's Global Networks in 2020. And then you know, Furtick, built that huge, you know, multimillion dollar home and just the amount of money. So, if you had 350, youd have 175 your second weekend, and youd probably settle around 140-150 at the end of that first month. But then you started culturally seeing some things and weve already hinted at this, you know, theres a lot of fallen pastors who, who have just been incorporated into the ARC or they launched from the ARC and after they fall, man, theyre just theyre just brought right back in. Youve got 25 minutes, but the seeker sensitive church planting culture actually says listen that this is not a problem, because we live in an ADD culture, and so people get bored so you should only be teaching 25 minutes anyway or youre going to lose peoples attention. But you know, we got the churches there, you know, as the saying says, a mile wide and an inch deep. And so, what you would find generally in Calvary Chapel churches is they have a board, because youre legally required to have a board if youre a registered charity. Ive been on Reddit, in fact, Reddits fantastic. Because of the, you know, that the kind of power differential thats there. We are growing in Truth, we are growing in the Fruit of the Holy Spirit, we are growing in love for all people. its, again, you do this, this launch, its really professional, you got everything together. But maybe not in the worlds way of flourishing of getting huge. Its not just one person, its numerous people coming forward. Where there are issues in a church, they should be brought to light and exposed. They, too, had a heart to equip church planters and help build a healthy model for church planting. JULIE ROYS 20:02So, your church, I mean, it didnt happen according to the ARC plan, you basically had to start over again. But I guess theres a part of me that says, at what point do we say these are false teachers? Are you an existing church? Did anyone else think the pitch for church planters sounded a little fishy? They, they look into the health of your marriage, they look into the health of your personal finances. What made you want to come forward and speak publicly about this now? And so, what I love about that, though, is the Bible doesnt say, and Paul was offended, because how dare you assume that the word of the anointed is not good enough. But Ill say this, as a member of that churchs security team, I noticed a LOT of what Jeff has described. JEFF THOMPSON 11:44You go to an initial, essentially vision pitch event. And Im just realizing, as youre speaking, its not just sex, its money, sex, and power, right? This funding served as a safety net to boost their confidence in planting their local church. When we brought it to them, they didnt do anything. JEFF THOMPSON 45:14They gave it a lot of real estate. So, well see what happens. Its also one of the most embattled . And Im wondering, it sounds like its a business model, and theyre trying to attract you to their business model. This is this is not a grace issue, just wrong. You know, but people assume that and so that thats going to be the goal of a message. They launched really big, they grew really big and now theyre some of these churches embroiled in scandal and this is one of my main questions. We value the past and celebrate the future. What was it about ARC that attracted you, and you said, hey, this is an organization I want to go with? And its like, no, no, you didnt your pastor just made you feel like trash. And so through that, I started answering some questions that people had. Then the woman that says that he raped her goes public with it. One of the big issues was when the BLM riots were happening and everything like that, and when the George Floyd incident happened, and I apologize if this sounds crass to anyone but among every church that wanted to be culturally relevant, there was a scramble to say weve got to get, weve got to get somebody whos black to be on the podium this Sunday to talk about this. 88% of our church plants are financially independent after a few years? Church planters, current church pastors, and campus pastors are welcome to attend and learn with us. Church planting as a thing is nowhere in Scripture. Thats 55 minutes is very, very common, because you got to think you got to have a service, then you got to turn all the people over, people got to get out the parking lot the other people got to get in. Since 2000, the mission of ARC has been to train and resource church planters in starting new churches. Theyre supposedly providing oversight, and its a little bit like the fox watching the henhouse. It seems to me (and I may be wrong) that 1 Timothy 5:20 reads a little curiously if there is no explicit congregational oversight to the discipline of an elder. And God bless you with your church. But Im thinking of somebody that I know who when I first started reporting on ARC, I got a text from her. He carried an important value that became a part of ARCs DNA to value the little guy. Thats all that happened. Theres no top-down orders. And so, Calvary Chapel would say thats what a church leadership structure should look like. We are grateful to each of these churches for their love of Jesus and for joining in the mission to plant new churches. So, youll be hearing quite a bit about that in this podcast. And the only difference is that our roles are different, and our callings are different.
Association of Related Churches: Time to get off the ARC And so, you look at an ARC success rate was through the roof compared to any other church planting model. And so yeah, ARC looked very, very appealing, their success rate in terms of viability was through the roof, they offered a system, and when your church planting thats, thats very appealing, and I felt a little bit out of place from the beginning, because we always felt called to be an expositional Bible teaching church. But actually, ask these questions, you know, just say, how, how come this is the model we see consistently in the New Testament, and yet, the model we have at our church is, is not elders and pastors leading the church together, its a group of overseers who dont actually work at the church throughout the week, they dont interact with our people, and this is nothing like the New Testament model? The map includes churches planted through ARC and network churches that invest in our mission. Weve got Jason Delgado in Vibrant Church in Mississippi, who, again, sexual harassment, and then theyre saying, ARC covered it up. And then that sort of thing is fine. He talked about the style of preaching that he considers Biblical and the style of church organization that he considers Biblical. And so, we felt a little bit out of place, sort of from the beginning, but I thought, but we can take all their help in all these other systems that we dont know anything about. Its enlightening to hear about ARC from the standpoint of a pastor. Since 2000, the mission of ARC has been to train and resource church planters in starting new churches. ARC provides opportunities for you to build relationships with others in ministry that will support and strengthen you. And so, theres whole chunks of the Bible that never get touched because theyre, theyre difficult. The successful ARC churches have services, typically under an hour in length, for the whole service. Along with Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestantism, it is one of the three major branches of Christianity.. And then it was found that theres a woman whos accusing him of sexually assaulting her.
